Embracing the dark

Loneliness is perceived as a dark and negative emotion. An emotion we have to face by ourselves. And only by ourselves. Loneliness is a small, quiet place. Yet it is ever-present in society. This paradox intrigues me. Loneliness is always there. And it is of all times. For many, however, it is still taboo to discuss. Loneliness is often viewed as a sign of weakness and vulnerability. To me, beneath this “negative” emotion, there is a purity that holds a certain kind of beauty. Beauty only to be found in the dark.

In this dark, I find inspiration. I face it in all its beauty. I take it as it comes. Rather than creating something opposite, I choose to embrace the dark. And let it be a guiding light while creating the collection of photographs in this zine. In this collection, I explored being lost, longing for touch, vulnerability, and death. Topics that relate to loneliness.
