Photographic diary (July)
Hands, Stockholm, The countryside of Sweden
This month Anna-Jente and I travelled to the countryside in southern Sweden, the destination. A family house of Anna-Jente. The house in question lies close to a big lake; the view from the back porch is a big wheat field. The wind carries the smell of the forest throughout the house. The only sound this wind carries with her is the sound of birds and crickets. And every now and then a deer’s mating call.
This place breaths peacefullness. So for the next 7 days there is nothing to do except take photograhps, swim and relax.
Of course, the camera gear came with me; 80% of the weight of my bag was this gear. I carry this weight proudly; this weight resembles my passion. In the shed of the house, I found the best light, so naturally I built a small Atelier to photograph old tools that lay in this shed. I set up the hand-dyed fabric I use in my Atelier as a backdrop. Set up my heavy tripod. The small series I created here will follow later on Instagram.
I find it particularly hard to get a good photo of the forest; there is just so much to look at you can’t capture it in a frame. Yet there are a few photographs that to me succeeded. I admire photographers who can capture the beauty of a forest. Like the sea its a waiting game for the perfect light and moment.
Before we flew to Sweden, we had to wake up at 4:00 to catch a flight. Late night or early morning, Amsterdam has its beauty. The photo I took of the streets in Amsterdam encapsulates this beauty perfectly.
We spent two days in Stockholm before flying back home. The old city created a perfect decor for timeless photograhps. When I am in bigger cities, I always seem to be interested in reflections of the countless windows. Some create a distortion, reshaping buildings into an abstract sculpture.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy
