Photographic diary (November)

Exhibition, Portraits, Dead birds, November rain

November rain, Portraits, and dead birds.

The month started with finding two dead birds. A thrush and an Eurasian blue tit (whoever comes up with bird names must be a funny guy). I photographed these birds in my atelier. I’m eager to share these photographs, but I decided that I’ll keep myself from sharing these photographs. Until I have enough to create a series. I would not be surprised that this series will take me up to 10 years to work on. U see, birds don’t come falling out of the sky.

This month, I found myself at a party called Broeikas, where various artists performed, and so did Mayte. The performance was so good I had to capture it. After I shared the photographs with her, we spoke briefly and later decided to ask if I could take her portrait. She agreed.

Sometimes someone’s energy is so infectious, I just know the portraits will be really good. Someone walking down the street or having a brief conversation. There are plenty of people whom I cross weekly, and I just know that if I were to take their portrait, the results would be beautiful. With Mayte, I had this feeling as well. My feeling was right, the portraits turned out beautiful.

This month was filled with rain and fog, the latter a black and white photographer’s dream. Other photograhps in this month’s diary are small snippets. A concert of Joep Beving, my favourite pianist, and A night scene in Amersfoort, where I had an exhibition this month.

Behind the scenes, I have been working on a small series, so yet again I won’t share these photograhps until the series is done.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy

the month of November.
