Photographic diary (January)
Winterlandscapes, Shadow, Portraits
A month full of photography, this month I was able to fully focus on my photograhpy while getting ready to start a new job, which I will combine with a new project! The goal for this project is to create a book and an exhibition. But for now, this was my January in photograhps.
This month I focused on learning new editing techniques and fine tuning my post production. I had seven portrait sessions to playaround with new compositions and edits. If I compare my portraits now with the portraits I took in 2024, I can see a huge improvement in technical skills and understanding of light. Taking Portraits is still one of my favorite things to photograph.
Next to portraits, I took plenty of landscapes, which come naturally, I find myself on walks, and these landscapes greet me. Iam not actively going out to create these landscapes. They remind me of charcoal drawings smudged and tossed around in a bag of a landscape painter making a study before heading to his atelier to paint the final. To me, these landscapes are rather a study of contrast, light, and technique. Always out of focus and blurred, creating a new reality.
Like every month, I cant forget to almost write a love letter to the light. Winter light is special; the snow wraps us in a white blanket, reflecting the light in a unique way. Nights are brighter, the light has this softness to it. The sky and the ground function as a big softbox. And when the sun does have a chance to show, the shadows are long, the light is almost golden it is special.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy
the month of January.
