Photographic diary (March)

Spring and Love.

This month finally feels like the days are longer and the evenings are filled with light again. The days are getting warmer, and the light is changing with the seasons. I especially love the evenings when there are no clouds in the sky; the whole sky becomes a ceiling of colors. It slowly goes from orange to pink to blue and darker blue, and eventually black with specks of white. It reminds me of a project I was working on a year ago, “Every ending is a new beginning.” I took a walk every evening at nightfall and just captured what crossed my path. The colour photos in this month’s selection could have been part of that project.

That project was like therapy for me. It gave me routine, surprises, and peace of mind during a hard time. Creatively, it made me step away from my usual style and go out with no intention.

This month, a lot of thought went into two projects.

I reached day 100 of taking a photograph in a grey box every morning. This project is a dedication to photography, almost like a prayer to the medium. It’s also a visual diary, with the items I photograph being part of what’s going on in my life.

The second project I’m working on took shape at the end of last month. It’s interesting to me that, as artists, we sometimes start a project without knowing. In last month’s diary, I spoke about carrying a printed photograph in my back pocket and letting it age over time. I have been doing so for quite some time now. I gave one of these worn-down photographs to someone of whom I have taken portraits. He framed that photograph (see photo in the diary). This sparked the idea for a new project. And without knowing, I have been working on this project for the last few months.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy
